Rehabilitated owls find a new home in ZZ2’s eco-friendly farmlands

Large-scale synchronisation & AI programme at ZZ2’s cattle unit

Many farmers, especially in the western parts of the country, have been experiencing a dry spring and summer. These conditions are not optimal for reconception in cattle as the condition of cows will decrease after calving, or because they did not undergo an improvement in body condition at the start of the breeding season. The main result of synchronisation of cattle at the start of the breeding season, is a focus on the condition of the cattle. Bulls should not merely be put with cows. In such a programme, every animal is handled three times within two weeks and each one’s condition score is physically recorded during the first handling.

ZZ2 gears up for second cherry export deal

South African produce company ZZ2 is preparing for its second ever cherry export campaign of fruit from a recently purchased farm, with volumes expected to rise this year. The entity bought a farm in the North West province’s Rustenburg region in 2015 and enjoyed a successful inaugural season of around 40 metric tons (MT) last year.

ZZ2 sponsors cattle for annual Merensky Youth Show

On Saturday, 24 June, the annual in-house Youth Show was hosted by Agri-Merensky at Merensky High School. 23 Learners were eager to prove their knowledge and showmanship concerning animal husbandry. After completing a written test, they were tested on cleaning and grooming the cattle. They were judged on their showmanship in the ring by Pieter Gerber and Willie Stevens. In the junior category Phillip du Preez took first place. Runner-up was Luandie Visagie, with Charize Taylor in third place. The seniors had a tough battle, but Iszabella le Roux came out on top, followed by Timothy Venter 2nd and Nicky Smith 3rd.
